# How It Works

> How Flux understands your car questions and guides you to next steps

Flux works like a conversation. You describe your situation, Flux asks a few follow-up questions to understand the details, and then gives you a clear explanation along with practical next steps. There's no form to fill out and no technical knowledge required.

## The three-step flow

<Steps>
  <Step title="Ask">
    Describe your symptom, paste a diagnostic trouble code, or share a mechanic quote. You can write in plain language — no technical terms needed. For example: "My car stalled and the EPC light came on, but I was able to restart it."
  </Step>

  <Step title="Understand">
    Flux asks a few short clarifying questions to get the full picture, then explains what's likely going on in plain language — what the issue means, how urgent it is, and what it might cost.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Decide">
    You get practical next steps, service options, and local mechanic recommendations based on your location. Flux helps you weigh your options so you can make the right call for your situation.

## What you can ask Flux

Flux handles a wide range of car care questions. Here are some examples:

**Symptoms**

> "My car stalled and the EPC light came on."

**Warning lights**

> "What does my check engine light mean before a smog check?"

**Repair quotes**

> "My mechanic quoted me \$800 for a brake job — is that fair?"

**Maintenance**

> "What maintenance does my 2018 Honda Civic actually need?"

**Service selection**

> "Should I go to a dealer or an independent shop for this?"

<Tip>
  For the most accurate answers, include your vehicle's year, make, and model when you ask a question. Flux tailors its guidance to your specific car.

## Quick-reply buttons

After each response, Flux offers quick-reply buttons so you can keep the conversation moving without having to type. These typically include options like **Learn More**, **Simple Checks**, **Quick Fixes**, **DIY**, and **Service Options** — letting you drill into whichever direction is most useful for your situation.
