# Asking Questions

> Tips for getting the most useful answers from Flux

Flux works best when you describe your situation naturally. You don't need to know technical terms — just explain what you're experiencing with your car the same way you'd tell a friend.

## What to include in your question

  The more specific you are about your vehicle and symptoms, the more tailored Flux's guidance will be.

When you ask a question, try to include:

* **Your vehicle's year, make, and model** — for example, "2018 Honda Civic" or "2021 Ford F-150"
* **The specific symptom or problem** — for example, "stalls at idle," "grinding noise when braking," or "pulls to the left"
* **Any warning lights you see** — for example, "check engine light" or "EPC light"
* **The full list of services and prices** if you're asking about a mechanic's quote

## Types of questions

    Describe what your car is doing in plain language. Flux will walk through the most likely causes and what to check first.

    Examples:

    * "My car stalls when I start it in the morning"
    * "There's a knocking sound from my engine when I accelerate"

    * "I hear a squealing noise when I turn the steering wheel"

    Tell Flux which light is on and whether it appeared suddenly or has been on for a while. If you know the code (like P0420), include it.

    * "I have a P0171 code on my 2016 Toyota Camry — what is that?"

    Paste the full list of services and prices from your mechanic's estimate. Flux will tell you whether the work and cost are reasonable for your vehicle.

    Examples:

    * "I got a quote for a timing belt replacement on my 2014 Honda CR-V. Here's the breakdown: \[paste quote]"
    * "The shop says I need a transmission flush, coolant flush, and new air filter for \$450. Do I actually need all of that?"

    Ask about what your car actually needs at its current mileage, or how often you should do a specific service. Flux bases its answers on your vehicle, not a generic schedule.

    Examples:

    * "How often should I change my oil in a 2019 Subaru Outback?"
    * "What does my car actually need at 60,000 miles?"
    * "Do I really need to flush my transmission fluid every 30,000 miles like the shop says?"
    * "When should I replace my timing belt on a 2013 Acura TSX?"

    Flux can help you figure out what type of shop is right for your situation before you go searching.

    Examples:

    * "Can a chain like Jiffy Lube handle a coolant flush, or should I go somewhere else?"

## Quick replies

After each response, Flux shows a row of quick reply buttons. These are shortcuts to get more detail without typing a follow-up question.
